Fetal echocardiography

A detailed ultrasound scan of the baby's heart before birth. It is a more specialised scan than the routine pregnancy ultrasound. The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) publishes a practice parameter that sets out how the scan should be done and recorded.

Overview

Technical summary

Procedure (a test) that uses cardiac ultrasound of the fetus. Source: the AIUM Practice Parameter for the Performance of Fetal Echocardiography (J Ultrasound Med 2020; PubMed holds no abstract; the AIUM page dates the parameter 2019). The AIUM page describes its practice parameters as a baseline for how complete an examination should be, not as a legal rule of care. The full parameter text was not read, so its indications are not recorded here. The link to the shared echocardiography identity in core is for navigation only. An indications claim, and a link to congenital heart disease that rests on it, wait on reading the full text.
