## In plain language

Devices placed inside the uterus (womb) after birth to control or reduce postpartum bleeding when conservative management is warranted, as their US clearances word it. One kind uses a balloon filled with fluid; another uses vacuum. This page makes no claim about how well tamponade works.

In the United States one product code, OQY (openFDA name: Intrauterine Tamponade Balloon), covers both families recorded here: a balloon device, which uses the fluid pressure of an expanding balloon, and a vacuum device. Their cleared indications, on the linked product pages, are worded differently for each device and each state that conservative management is warranted. No guideline recommendation and no trial of tamponade was read for this record, so it states no effect and no place in a treatment sequence.
