## In plain language

Whether the mother developed pre-eclampsia with severe features, up to 2 weeks after the birth. It is one of the four parts of the CHAP primary combined outcome.

## Technical summary

One of the four components of maternal:outcome-chap-primary-composite, worded as the CHAP paper's Methods words it. Pre-eclampsia was defined by ACOG criteria. The paper adds that a blood pressure of 160/100 mm Hg or greater, with no signs or symptoms of pre-eclampsia, no proteinuria and no laboratory abnormalities, was not enough to diagnose pre-eclampsia with severe features. This outcome is narrower than maternal:outcome-chap-any-preeclampsia, which also counts pre-eclampsia without severe features. The two overlap, so they must not be added together. The recipient is the mother.
