## In plain language

Whether the placenta came away from the wall of the womb before the birth and this led to the baby being delivered. CHAP also recorded other abruptions, but they did not count toward the primary combined outcome. It is one of the four parts of that outcome.

## Technical summary

One of the four components of maternal:outcome-chap-primary-composite. The paper's Methods name it as placental abruption, without a definition, and point to the paper's Supplementary Appendix, which this atlas has not read. The protocol attached to the registry record (v1.7, section 4.7.1, page 31) narrows it: for the primary outcome it is greater than usual uterine bleeding in the absence of placenta previa or trauma, associated with contractions, non-reassuring fetal heart tones and/or a clinical diagnosis of abruption, leading to delivery. Other cases of abruption were collected but not included. Whether that protocol version is the one the paper's authors used was not checked, and the registry JSON fields themselves give no definition. The paper does not say whose outcome it is, so this record assigns no recipient.
